It was a fashion disaster

DisasterThis Thursday, the curtains went up on yet another fashion week in the country – Bangalore Fashion Week. The fashion community has booed down the event and participants are still recovering from the harrowing experience they had.

Delhi-based designer duo Parvesh and Jai have even come back with torn garments, courtesy inappropriate models. Says Jai, “The choreographer was changed at the last moment.

Consequently, nine models were replaced. This, when most designers had already done the fittings for their garments.

These models were so short in height that they stepped on our garments and completely ruined them. Most of our garments were torn.

” Designer Nida Mahmood blames it on the sudden spurt of fashion weeks in the country. “We are just making a fool of ourselves globally.

Today we have fashion weeks springing up for each cosmopolitan; tomorrow we will have it for each district. This is just a stepping stone to a hot fashion disaster.

” Her opinion is well supported by the fact that the fashion week reportedly did not even have a single international buyer. Says Jai, “There were just no buyers.

Michelle to feature on Vogue cover

US first lady and new style icon Michelle Obama will feature on the cover of Vogue magazine’s March issue and will appear in an eight-page spread that includes clothes from her own wardrobe.

While nearly every first lady – beginning with Herbert Hoover’s wife, Lou, in 1929 – has been photographed for the fashion magazine, only Hillary Clinton was featured on the cover, in December 1998, said Patrick O’Connell, Vogue spokesperson.

Michelle was photographed by well-known photographer Annie Leibovitz at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obama family stayed prior to the inauguration. The cover of the issue was released Wednesday and the first lady is seen wearing a magenta dress by Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural gown, and also pictured in a black dress by designer Narciso Rodriguez, reports people.com.

As for why Vogue chose to feature Michelle on the cover, the magazine’s editor Anna Wintour said: “Change was the clarion call of Barack Obama’s election campaign, though I don’t think any of us at Vogue initially realised that would include the difference that was going to be made by First Lady Michelle Obama’s wardrobe. It’s inspiring to see our first lady so serene and secure.”

Inside the magazine, Michelle appears in an eight-page spread that includes clothes from her own wardrobe, including a black Narciso Rodriguez dress and a J. Crew cardigan, top and skirt ensemble. Photos of her with President Barack Obama from inauguration ceremonies are also featured.
